Low-carb, keto, carnivore, these diet dogmas have women over 40 terrified of carbs.
But here’s the truth: skipping carbs can wreck your metabolism, stress your adrenals, shrink your muscles, and even sabotage your sleep and focus.
I’m busting the carb myth wide open and showing you how the right kinds of carbs can actually help you age stronger, build muscle, boost your workouts, and support your hormones — especially after 40.
Watch to learn:

You don’t need a whole lot of carbs after 60 Remember Oxalates though In some veggies
As an active peri-menopausal woman while avoiding carbs for the last several years wrecked me. I’m now 51 and trying to get my thyroid function back online after the stress of avoiding carbs that my body so needed. The fact that Adrenalin, glucagon + cortisol had to step in for my lack of carb intake down regulated my thyroid function – of course, to protect me. Thank you JJ for all you are doing to help women all over the world understand what it takes and what it doesn’t take to become and stay healthy + strong 💪. Much love to you 🙏 ❤
I really appreciate you sharing this — so relatable. It’s incredible how the body responds when we start giving it what it actually needs. I’ve shared a few videos on my channel around this exact shift (carbs, stress, thyroid, gut) — might be helpful as you keep rebuilding. 💛
@@MichelleBlackChannelyes, I believe this down regulation of our thyroid and it’s deleterious sequela is happening to a lot of women restricting carbs- and being blamed for, or mistaken for other root cause issues. There is nothing “wrong”‘with our thyroid in this carb deficient state, but it’s that our bodies are simply doing what they are suppose to do when it needs to put on the breaks to conserve whatever energy we have— it’s when our bodies generate such needed carbs through other pathways such as Gluconeogenesis. This process is a stress on our bodies. I’ll check out your channel for sure. Thank you 🙏 💛
@@rachaelalbanese1851 Yes — beautifully said. 🙌 So many women are experiencing this exact downregulation but getting told to just “try harder” or restrict more. It’s not dysfunction — it’s adaptation.
Really appreciate the thoughtful conversation.
Thanks for sharing your journey—it’s something so many women can relate to. Wishing you continued healing and strength! –Emily from Team JJ

This was such a clear breakdown — thank you, JJ! 🙌 So many women in midlife are still afraid of carbs without understanding how fiber, timing, and pairing with protein/fat all play a role. Loved how you tied it into blood sugar and metabolism. More of this conversation, please! 💥
THANK YOU ❤
Thank you so much for laying this out so clearly, I needed to see what type of menu is appropriate daily to integrate starchy carbs, I have been carnivore , then ketovore for months, I am 58 and hate these diet regimes, I am also only 5’2 so I dont need as many calories or carbs as taller or fitter people, however i am starting a weight lifting regime this month, I need daily dietary info laid out by meals, I only eat twice a day, so incorporating all these foods is tricky, I heard not to eat starchy carbs in the evening, anyway if you do a follow up video, could you show pics of a few meal suggestions to help people like myself to retrain my brain on what is a good choice? thank you for your time, and effort to teach people to take the best care of there aging bodies.
