40 is the new 30, right? Well, what about 50 or 60? Exercise and diet are just as important for these age groups. This blog post will help you get started on a routine that works for you!

We all know that getting older is inevitable. However, what you can do to combat this process? You may not look like you did in your twenties, but that's okay! There are still numerous ways to keep yourself healthy and active! Whether you want to burn off excess skin or tone up the sagging muscles, don't feel discouraged; read on for some helpful information.
It's never too early to start, but you must find something that works for your particular age group. Your exercise routine (and diet) should be tailored to your personal needs and wants, while also considering factors like family history, health conditions, and medications.

40-49:

Cardiovascular exercise is critical for weight loss in this age group. Just a brisk walk every day is an excellent way to stay fit and lose pounds or maintain your current weight status. If you can afford a gym membership, this might be a good time to invest in getting a trainer who can help with form and teach exercises specific to your goals. For those of us without trainers, online videos are an excellent way to get started. This WikiHow article has some great pointers on how to get started. Strength Training! Also included in this category are arm weights and other resistance exercises that can be done at home for free or at very little cost. These are wonderful because they strengthen bones, provide exercise for the muscles, and help with balance without requiring a high-impact workout by running or jumping around all over the place.

50+:

As you age, your heart becomes more fragile so it is important to not engage in strenuous workouts which could lead to muscle damage and strain on the heart. Be sure to consult with your doctor before beginning any new exercise routines since you may require tests like an EKG or stress test if you have not done these in the past. Strength Training! This is an excellent time to invest in some free weights; you can get a full workout with just two dumbbells of various sizes. Be sure to work with your balance and train your muscles slowly over time – rather than trying to lift heavy objects which may lead to injury, opt for lighter weights initially until you are comfortable working out this way.

Remember, it's never too early or too late to start practicing good habits when it comes to exercise and diet! All these suggestions are great ways to work towards better health while creating memories that will last a lifetime. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and keep up the good work.

    • Hi! That is a great way to get exercise! I’m with you and not crazy about exercising. Walking for just a mile or two and the low impact short pilates routine are the only workouts I will actually stick with and find tolerable LOL. I hope you have a great week! xoxo

    • Hi Stacy! I love chocolate too…actually I love most desserts as well :)) Can’t cut out all the good stuff! I hope you are having a great week! xoxo

  14. Love your honesty!! I have to do the same thing. If I don’t keep my exercise routines simple, I just won’t do them. Lol! And forget going to a gym! There’s too much preparation in going to a gym. 😉 And I love how you stay thin without depriving yourself. I definitely love healthy foods, and eat them often, but I have a lot of things that I eat that are for the most part just a lower fat, lower calorie alternative to the fattening version, with very little nutritional value. Lol! And of course I cheat all day at least 1 day a week. 😀 For me, it’s all about keeping things realistic and balanced.

    • Hi Jenifer! I agree, going to the gym is just too time consuming for me too. You have an amazing figure so whatever you are doing definitely works wonderfully!!! Ya, I think being realistic and balanced is very important, if it’s too drastic then it’s harder to stick to. I hope your having a great week! xoxo

  15. Super simple Anne-Marie! I love that! I hope it works as well for me as it does for you.

    • I hope so too Marcy! The windsor pilates 20 minute workout that I do is on youtube if you didn’t want to buy the dvd 🙂 I hope you have a wonderful day xoxo

  19. I love that you admit to eating processed foods and you still look fabulous! Proof that it’s all about not vilifying a particular food but enjoying everything in moderation.

  20. I love the fact that you admit to liking your processed food and junk food—don’t we all!!
