You need to reach muscular fatigue, and that means lifting weights heavy enough that by your last few reps, you're wondering if you can actually get it up. Pilates won't get you there.
That said, Pilates is an amazing complement to strength training. It fills gaps that heavy lifting alone doesn't cover like stability, control, and breath work. But the hierarchy matters and strength training is the foundation. Then add in whatever else you love, whether that's Pilates, yoga, or a walk.
