  1. JJ! I think this is true. Lemme tell you, when I read the virgin diet, it was a God send. I had just had my second child. I was struggling with my weight. I didn’t know what harm gluten could cause. I followed your book, and I lost over 70 lbs within a few months. Not even joking. Later on, years later I got on the fasting thing and I didn’t lose weight like I thought I should have. In the past week, I’ve had breakfast every single day. Not caring about the fasting thing and I’m down 9 lbs in a week.

  2. 64?year old female Diana here. That’s a 15 hour fast from last meal night before to first meal that you explained if you don’t eat for two hours from waking up. Is that good ?
Dr Stacy Sims I believe on your show says to eat within 30 mins of waking to stop the cortisol spike – so who is right here ??

    • I believe you should ask your body😊

  3. The studies are interesting to know what happens in our bodies
However, I listen to my body and have or skip breakfast according to how I feel.
On a regular basis I wake up at 5.30 to go to work and I take water and a black coffee (even if it would be better to wait for the coffee). Later, at around 9, my stomach asks for food and I have my first meal, a big one with proteins.
When I don’t work, on weekends, I usually go to the gym in the morning and I can have or skip breakfast according to how I feel. I don’t force myself to eat if I’m not hungry yet.

  4. I’ve been skipping breakfast for almost 10 years. I’m now 60 years old and fitter than most of the 25 year olds who attend my fitness classes. Just find out what works for you! There is no “One fits all”.

    • I hated breakfast as a kid! I never ate breakfast all through high school and always felt great. Now I’m 46, still don’t eat breakfast. Lift weights and workout daily. I would hate to go to the gym on a full stomach. Same as you, I’m also fitter than 90 percent of the population.

  5. 61, have tried both fasted and fed lifting sessions in the morning. Better gains if I at least drink a protein shake with 5 eggs before exercise.

  6. I cannot eat before working out. It makes me feel ill and I need the bathroom. I can’t even walk after eating, it has to be before or the same thing happens.

  7. I think that ancestrally, most humans (male or female) would not have eaten upon waking. If you go back far enough – it would be unlikely that there would have been any type of food (esp proteins!) just hanging around in the cave/hut/house or whatever overnight. On this basis, breakfast before ‘working out’ (read – hunting/gathering/ cleaning, walking to market or whatever)… is clearly NOT essential to our survival – nor did it appear to damage our metabolism. Metabolic dysfunction, which is the root cause of most of the chronic lifestyle diseases we now deal with was not something humans suffered from before the onset of food manufacturing and any government ‘guidelines’ on what to eat.

  8. Honestly I don’t know what to do anymore. Fast… not fast…do cardio…don’t do cardio…at least they all agreed on eating protein.
