By the time a woman reaches menopause, she has already been through so much. She has gone through puberty, graduated high school and college, maybe had children and even grandchildren. The last thing we want to do is add weight gain into that mix of life events. The good news is that you can avoid this with some simple tips and tricks! Here are 10 ways to lose weight over 50 during menopause:
1. Eating breakfast jump-starts your metabolism and helps you to lose weight.
2. You can increase your metabolism even further if you eat several small meals throughout the day as opposed to 3 large ones (so by eating more often, you're speeding up your metabolic processes.)
3. Avoid refined carbohydrates such as white bread and pasta because they will just add empty calories and pounds that won't come off no matter how much exercise you do! Opt for whole-grain instead and pair it with lean protein or fiber-rich foods like beans to keep yourself satisfied longer.
4. Lean proteins such as chicken promote fat loss so make sure to substitute red meat with lean meats 2x-3x per week to lose weight over 50 during menopause.
5. Melt your butter instead of spreading it! Cutting the butter out of your diet can help you to lose weight because many people tend to replace the calories (butter has ~100 per tablespoon) with other foods like sugar, etc., which are high in empty calories and not-so-good for weight loss endeavors.
6. Drink green tea which acts as an anti-inflammatory to reduce bloating that comes with menopause, all while speeding up metabolism!
7. Sweat it out in a hot yoga class or any activity that gets your heart pumping just enough so that you don't do too much and injure yourself but yet still get in some good calorie-burning exercise!
8. Eat a low-calorie snack before going to the gym, this way you won't be as hungry and more likely to overeat during your meal after a good workout.
9. Switch out fried foods with baked ones to lose weight over 50 during menopause because they are lower in calories and fat!
10. Make it a goal to be active for at least 30 minutes per day, 4 days per week to help boost your metabolism and burn calories even when you're not working out!

great info Annie! I have lost 20 pounds on Keto since last spring. I don’t like eggs either but the yolks are where all the nutrients are. I get my eggs in my keto pancake recipe. Super good! 2 eggs, almond flour cream cheese and baking powder. they re fantastic, low carb, lots of protein. I ate these every days for months when I first started. I was probably more addicted to sugar than you 🙂 I haven’t cheated at all since I started 8 months ago. If you wan the recipe go to the Keto Karma blog or message Me 🙂

I tried Keto and became very depressed. My brain needs grains to be healthy. Fortunately, I love whole grains (quinoa, steel cut oats).

OMG….you have a zoom lens just like me…LOL! I am a sugar addict…I CANNOT have it or I am doomed. Menopause has not been kind to my body…I struggle everyday…but , it can be done…the desire/want has to be strong…we can do it ladies!! Great video!

I too am addicted to sugar. I’ve always had a sweet tooth but I also had a great metabolism. I’m almost 63 and my metabolism is not what it used to be…lol. Thanks for sharing your journey Anne!

A week ago I discovered of this weight loss plan *2WeightLossFast. Com* from a buddy who following the directions lost practically 18 pounds within only some short days. We started, too; my progress has been fantastic. I caint suggest this program enough.

Finished it, lost some weight, got super strong but burned myself out on working out. Just got a Fitbit and am walking. I teach yoga so flexibility is good but need cardio. 😛

I am a sugar addict too! I can pass up burgers, pizza greasy or fatty foods but if its sweet… its like i have no control

I’m 50 and recently post menopausal. Weight (25lbs on my 5 feet tall body!) has crept on over the past couple years and clung to my midsection. It makes me sad. Definitely feeling rock bottom after not having to watch my weight in the past. Only benefit is it naturally fills out my fine lines and wrinkles. 😉

Just found your video and I have to say I definitely have to follow your suggestions. I’m 55 now and I am so frustrated by the non movement of my scale. I started walking myself..every morning. I live in Florida also and if I walk the perimeter of my neighborhood, it’s 1 mile. I must follow your breakfast suggestion as I don’t believe my cup of cereal is working.
