But I don’t want you thinking about movement as a transaction: “I ate this, so now I need to burn it off.”
That’s not the goal.
Your total daily energy expenditure includes all the movement you do outside of structured exercise, often called NEAT. Walking, taking the stairs, standing more, doing chores, and simply spending less time sitting can all contribute.
So instead of obsessing over how many calories 6,000 versus 12,000 steps burns, focus on the bigger picture:
Move more throughout your entire day. Walk whenever you can. Break up long periods of sitting. And when appropriate, add some higher-intensity movement too.
Your daily movement is a powerful lever for your metabolic health, and every bit counts.
