#1 Grass-fed, grass-finished beef. This is my number one because it's got complete amino acid profiles, it's highly bioavailable, and grass-fed beef comes with omega-3s and CLA. It's nutrient-dense in a way that most people don't realize. Cook it lean, or embrace the fat depending on your goals. Either way, you're getting first-class nutrients, not economy class.
#2 Wild-caught salmon. This is a two-for-one because you're getting not just complete protein but also those critical omega-3s that support mitochondrial function, reduce inflammation, and slow the aging process. For someone in their 70s dealing with that energy deficit, salmon is doing serious work at the cellular level.
#3 Pastured eggs. One large egg has about 6 grams of protein plus all nine essential amino acids and vitamins D, B12, and B2 for energy metabolism. They're fast, portable, and if you're not intolerant, they're one of the most complete foods on the planet.
The reason these three matter is simple: when you eat protein first, you're triggering satiety signals, stabilizing blood sugar, and signaling your body to hold onto muscle. That's what burns fat. Not gimmicks. Not supplements. Protein, heavy weights, and sleep. That's the real formula.
