After all, shouldn’t we just accept out bodies after 50? Absolutely! But, just because we accept how we look doesn’t mean that we should let ourselves get unhealthy.

Are you one of the many post-menopausal women who are struggling to lose weight? If so, it may be because you're making these five common mistakes. Read on for tips to get back on the right track!

1. Not Eating Enough Calories

One of the most common mistakes post-menopausal women make when trying to lose weight is not eating enough calories. This can actually cause your body to hold on to weight instead of burning it off. Make sure you're eating enough food to support your activity level and weight loss goals.

2. Skipping Breakfast

Another common mistake is skipping breakfast, which can lead to lower energy levels and unhealthy snacking later in the day. Make sure you eat a healthy breakfast every morning to give yourself the energy you need to stay focused throughout the day.

3. Eating Too Much Processed Food

Processed foods are high in unhealthy fats, sodium, and sugar, which can sabotage your weight loss efforts. Instead, focus on eating whole, unprocessed foods that are packed with nutrients and antioxidants.

4. Not Drinking Enough Water

Drinking enough water can help boost your metabolism and keep you feeling full throughout the day. Make sure you drink plenty of water every day to help your weight loss efforts.

5. Exercising Too Much

Finally, another common mistake post-menopausal women make when trying to lose weight is exercising too much. This can lead to burnout and reduced motivation. Instead, aim for moderate levels of exercise that you can stick with over the long haul.

If you're struggling to lose weight after menopause, make sure you avoid these five common mistakes! By following these tips, you'll be on your way to achieving your weight loss goals in no time.

  1. I have cut out all while sugar, flour, grain and wheat, lowered my portion size. I’ve lost 26 lbs and 17 inches, I’ve added good fats, I wish I could add more exercise. Great video Margaret!

    • This is almost exactly what I do! In addition, I do not eat anything after dinner!!! Also, have a STEPS app on my phone and most days get in my 10,000 steps. Since I live in AZ, the majority of these are on my treadmill in the summer. I need to add some weights for upper body strength!!!
BIG congrats on losing the 26 pounds and 17 inches, Unboxed!!! That is fantastic!!!!

  2. Hi Margaret, love this topic. I try to be mindful everyday about what I eat. I am a breast cancer survivor, so that was lie changing for me. I am a vegetarian and I love fruits and vegetables. I have learned to make simple dishes like jasmine rice with a vegetable stir fried, yogurt smoothies, eggs , avocado and sprouted bread are my go to foods. My husband and I walk a lot , it is so relaxing and we enjoy it together. I have never been to a gym, I know I wouldn’t stick to it and it is too expensive for me, so I just try to be aware. I am not a sweet eater, but I do have dark chocolate everyday. I tend to eat the same foods and am pretty boring about it. I would love to hear what others do. Thanks and have a great week!

  3. I’ve adopted the Eating Once A Day at supper time (which is Intermittent Fasting or IF) + LCHF (Low good carb, moderate good fats) lifestyle. It’s very easy to make the change. It’s very flexible. I’ve lost 25lbs since June 1st. I’m half way to my weight loss goal. I use exercise for health and mobility.

    • Hi Susan, sounds interesting, but how do you keep from being too hungry before your meal? Congrats on your weight loss.

    • I lost 27 pounds i became unrecognizable. My self-esteem is incredibly high. I’m feeling beautiful and intensely willing. My boyfriend keeps praising me daily. The dietary plan I made is on this internet site here *TOP2DIET . COM*

  4. Informative, thanks! I’ve also read they add sugar and chemicals to make up for the lost taste in fat free foods, so I try to eat only whole foods.

  5. Hi Margaret
I’ve recently gone back to weight watchers in May, and as of June lost 5 1/2 lbs. Even though I broke my ankle in June and can’t put any weight on that leg, I’m still following the program (which is easier than ever) and I feel that my clothes are looser. This has always been the “go to” program for me, since it’s not a diet, but a way of life that teaches you portion size and makes you think about the reasons for overeating. There is always support, whether online or in class, so I feel comfortable recommending this to anyone who wants to lose weight and keep it off.

  6. I have cut back on a lot of carbs and increased my protein and veggies. I do intermittent fasting by not eating after my late lunch at 3:00. I’ve really had no problem with maintaining by weight. I’ve actually lost weight despite being on Lyrica for my fibro.

  7. Great advice and yes after post menopause…I like to go jogging something I have done for many many years,,,,,,do my light weights, pilates and yoga,,,,,,,I am a vegetarian and find that it helps me to stay in good shape…

  10. Cauliflower and broccoli ‘riced’ has changed my life! I also find that it is worth it to spend the extra money on convince like buying chopped onions and peppers. Having fresh vegetables ready to use is so helpful.

  11. i lost 88 pounds the year before last. Now i’m gaining it back slowly no matter what i seem to do. Very disheartening. Excellent video, many things i didnt know

  15. I thank you, Margaret for a great topic! I love my Zumba classes and try to attend them 3-4 times a week. Combining weights helps me also….now, to just eat the right foods! I am a foodie so it’s a challenge.

  16. I’ve seen a difference in my posture by doing upper back and shoulder strengthening and stretching exercises….also walking with my tummy tucked in tighter to help my core and help me stand straight! Also, while I’m waiting for my coffee to brew in the morning, I do push ups from my kitchen counter, I know not really push ups, but it helps my arms, shoulder, and upper back feel stronger!

  17. Hello, I have watched your videos a couple of times and really enjoyed them I have subscribed to your channel. I look forward to watching and learning allot from your channel. 18. Thyroid changes, common in post menopausal women can effect metabolism too.

  19. You’re beautiful Margaret!!! Thank you so very much for bringing us all together! This has helped me sooo much to gain my strength back! I’m still going thru my divorce so my emotions have been in control a lot of the time so the foods I’ve been eating this past year have NOT been very good at all!!! This divorce is one of the “horror story” divorce. I am a very emotional person but at This age they are more manageable than anytime before!!! I’m very grateful for that and I think you’ve been a leading contributor to that!!! I can’t Thank you enough!!! I am all alone but since I found this community I do not feel as lonely as before when I wasn’t doing very well at all. I’m alone but not lonely. I do miss having a man around tho!!! I need a handyman that’s all…. And maybe some companionship too! I know no one here. We just moved here! Anyone here in SoCal?!?! I would love to meet some of the women in here!
    Thank you very much!!!!!
    Sheila
